The De'Longhi Rivelia (EXAM440.55) breaks with the rest of the Italian manufacturer's range: gone is the "one bean at a time" compromise — it packs two interchangeable hoppers and a color touchscreen inherited from premium models. Launched above €800, it can now be found around €600 in Europe. For this review, we analyzed De'Longhi's official spec sheet, cross-checked specialist press tests and user feedback, and compared its performance with our reference Magnifica Evo, tested hands-on.

The Bean Switch System: the real novelty

The Rivelia is the first mainstream machine that lets you change coffee beans in five seconds, without emptying the hopper. That's the whole point of the Bean Switch System:

1. Two 250 g hoppers supplied with the machine
2. Remove one, clip in the other — without spilling a bean
3. The machine recognizes the hopper and applies the associated settings

Bean Adapt technology completes the package: for each hopper, the machine adjusts the grind (13 settings via an external dial), the dose and the extraction temperature based on the registered bean. In practice, it's the answer to a problem every household knows where one person drinks a bold coffee in the morning and a decaf or a single origin in the afternoon — until now, you had to empty the hopper or accept a blend.

The honest limit: a little already-ground coffee remains in the circuit with each swap, which slightly dilutes the first cup after switching and generates some wasted grounds. On this point, the specialist press and user feedback agree.

16 drinks, hot and cold

The Rivelia offers 16 preset recipes: espresso, ristretto, long coffee, americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, flat white, cortado, plus cold drinks (cold brew style, iced milk drinks) — versatility previously only found on the far pricier Eletta Explore.

The 3.5-inch color touchscreen is the second strong point: animated icons, guided paths, customization of every drink (strength, volume, temperature). It's the best interface De'Longhi has put in a machine at this price — far above the Magnifica Evo's display.

Extraction quality and milk system

With 19 bar of pressure and the 13-setting conical grinder, the Rivelia produces a dense espresso with a thick crema, in the lineage of the best De'Longhi machines. The external grind adjustment (no need to open the machine) is a real convenience.

The LatteCrema carafe keeps what makes the system successful: foam adjustable via a dial, a "clean" position that rinses the circuit with steam after use, and a carafe that fully disassembles and goes in the dishwasher. No tube to scrub: it's more hygienic and quicker to live with than the suction systems on the Magnifica.

The brew group is removable — as always with De'Longhi, a major maintenance advantage over Jura.

Weak points to know

• 1.4 L water tank: that's small for a machine at this price (1.8 L on the Magnifica Evo, 1.9 L on the Magnifica Evo Next). For a couple of heavy drinkers, expect a daily refill.
• No mobile app: the Rivelia is not Coffee Link compatible. Everything happens on the screen — fortunately an excellent one.
• One drink at a time: no simultaneous dual output for two cappuccinos.
• The price: ~€600 street, roughly €250 more than a Magnifica Evo for comparable everyday espresso quality.

Who is the De'Longhi Rivelia for?

Buy it if:

• You genuinely alternate between two coffee beans during the day
• You want cold drinks without stepping up to the Eletta Explore
• The touch interface and design matter as much as the coffee
• You drink milk-based drinks regularly (LatteCrema carafe)
• Your budget is €600-700

Consider alternatives if:

• You always drink the same bean → the Magnifica Evo (€350) or the Magnifica Evo Next (€499) make a comparable coffee for less
• You're a large family → the 1.4 L tank will quickly get annoying (prefer the Philips 5500 LatteGo and its 1.8 L)
• You want to control the machine from your phone → look at De'Longhi's connected range (Eletta Explore, PrimaDonna)

💡 Tip: the machine ships with both hoppers. Register your two beans during initial setup (the machine guides the Bean Adapt calibration) — that initial setup makes all the difference in the cup.

Our Verdict

The Rivelia is the most desirable De'Longhi machine of 2026. The Bean Switch System is no gimmick: it's an elegant solution to a real daily problem, and the 3.5" touchscreen leaves the competition behind. Extraction is at the level expected from the brand, and the LatteCrema carafe remains the easiest milk system to maintain on the market.

The math is simple: if you switch beans during the day or want cold drinks, the Rivelia justifies its price. Otherwise, the Magnifica Evo Next offers 90% of the experience for ~€100 less, and the classic Magnifica Evo remains the value-for-money queen.
