Hario Mini Mill Slim Review — Our 2026 Verdict

Overall rating: 8,1/10 — The manual grinder that democratizes freshly ground coffee

The Hario Mini Mill Slim is the best-selling Japanese manual grinder in the world: 29-39€, ceramic burrs, 280 g. We tested it for 3 weeks in daily use (espresso, V60, travel) to check whether it lives up to its reputation.

Grind Quality

For 29-39€, the surprise is real: the grind is consistent enough for the V60 and decent for an entry-level espresso. The limits appear on very fine grinds: a few "fines" and slightly irregular particle size that show up on pump machines.

CriterionScoreComment
V60 / filter8,5/10Very good for the price
Espresso7/10Decent, a few irregularities
French press8/10Honest
Overall consistency7,5/10Limited by the fineness of the burrs

On V60, the difference with supermarket pre-ground coffee is spectacular — that's the real value of this grinder: it turns any whole-bean coffee into freshly ground coffee, and that changes everything.

Travel and Daily Use

The Mini Mill is the ideal travel companion: 280 g, no fragile parts, and the ceramic burrs rinse clean with water. On the road (camping, hotel), it's the guarantee of decent coffee anywhere.

Its daily limits: 60-90 seconds to grind an espresso, and a load limited to 20-25 g. For a couple drinking 4 coffees in the morning, count 5-6 minutes of cranking. At that point, an electric grinder (Wilfa Uniform, 149€) takes over.

Our Verdict

The Hario Mini Mill is the best entry-level grinder on the market, plain and simple. For 29-39€, it introduces you to freshly ground coffee with surprisingly good quality, and it lasts for years with no maintenance. It's also the ideal gift to introduce someone to coffee.

For intensive daily use or demanding espresso, go electric: Wilfa Uniform (149-179€) for versatility, Eureka Mignon Specialita (349€) for straight espresso. But to start out, there's no better gateway.
